Philosophy on Teaching and Learning

Why do I teach?

The reason I teach is for that moment when it clicks for a student and the material we are covering resonates with them (the ¨ahh okay¨ moment). This is important to me as I can, from personal experience, recall struggling in classes and needing a little extra help to understand. I never did well with people telling me the answer in place of allowing space for my own self-discovery. My teaching philosophy is that I am merely there to be a guide and add clarity where there is confusion. My goal is to empower students to think for themselves and form their own conclusions, not just blindly follow common thought.

My Classes

My classes are student-centered and require a significant amount of investigation. Findings are broken down, analyzed, and applied towards real-world scenarios. A principal characteristic that is enforced in all class activities is effective communication. My goal is to empower students to think freely, analyze all facets of life, and have the confidence to communicate their position to a broader audience. Through written assignments, group debates, to detailed presentations to the class, students are gaining mastery of this ever so valuable life skill. After all, every aspect of life, from business to personal, involve logically conveying one's position to another, often with conviction to gain support or achieve a goal.
